SUMMARY:Bonalu Festival Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Bonalu is a highly vibrant and deeply traditional Hindu folk festival celebrated predominantly in the state of Telangana\, India\, particularly across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Celebrated during the auspicious month of Ashada Masam (typically July–August)\, the festival serves as a grand thanksgiving ritual to Goddess Mahakali for protecting the region against diseases and evil spirits. The hallmark of Bonalu is the “Bonam” itself\, a sacred meal of rice cooked with milk and jaggery packed into brass or earthen pots that are beautifully adorned with neem leaves\, turmeric\, vermilion\, and topped with a lit oil lamp. Barefoot women gracefully balance these heavy pots on their heads as they march in large processions toward local temples to present the grand feast to the Goddess.
